My school is a fairytale castle

As a kid, I grew up in a little village called Gārsene. One of the most beautiful landmarks of my village is Garsenes castle. Believe it or not, but it used to be my school, up until the 9th grade.

Today Garsene is no longer school (it stopped serving as a school in 2016 due to the small number of children), but just a lovely castle that attracts many tourists' eyes. The palace houses a museum where visitors can learn about the Baltic-German von Budberg family who used to own the castle. Budberg family owned the castle until the Latvian agrarian reforms in the 1920s.

If you are about to explore Garsene, we highly recommend taking this amazing chance and spend a night in the palace. It will be an unforgettable experience, even more, since the prices are so affordable. We had a double room with a bed and the price was 25€ per night. If you choose another type of room, sleeping on a mattress, then the price gets as low as 10€ per night.

It was so sweet to roam the classrooms of the castle and remember those precious memories of school time. It all felt so surreal, after all, now I am 28 years young, and the last time I was sitting here, behind a school desk, was more than 10 years ago. It was like a throwback in time, a very pleasant one.

When spending time in Garsene, I visited as well my grandfather Valerijs. We had together some quality time, went to cafeteria, museum and even to the nearest forest to grill some shashlik.

The countryside is always a good idea, just look at these postcards. Simply but beautiful.

Hope you enjoyed a trip to my countryside! :)
